Art Class and HTML
Aug. 28th, 2025 11:27 pmI decided to take an oil painting class this semester and I had class today!
It was fun, although all we did was do some black and white value studies basically. So not that exciting but I enjoy being in an art class regardless.
I also thought it would be a great idea to try to ride my bike to school on the bike path... lets just say I'm severely out of shape LOL (had to take a break on my way).
But Anyway, I want to figure out html on here... I see other people with decked out profiles and I'd like to customize mine as well.
I have some experience with html on SpaceHey and just messing around on my computer. So, I can probably figure it out on here (hopefully).

If they're covering basics, that's actually a sign you're in a good class. They may not be interesting, if you aren't into level-grinding skills, but they make it a lot easier to do the fancy things later on.
You can do an entire painting in grayscale, sepiatone -- anything with white and one dark color. In California, think about painting a fog scene, or how the honeyed light of late afternoon in summer turns everything to shades of gold. But you have to understand value, light and shadow, how to mix a gradient of paint blobs to do that. Among my favorite examples is "Shades of Gray" by Bob Ross, inspired by a colorblind fan.
For a more entertaining version, consider thumbnail color studies. It's the same concept of paying attention to value rather than detail, but you experiment with different color choices -- a great way to test what looks best without wasting a lot of paint. They're a lot easier to do if you've already done the gray ones. If you like artsy home decor, that kind of thing can be done as a big wall painting, like a quilt; or use them as coaster or other small things.

Most colleges are great for fitness because you will walk or bike almost everywhere. Sometimes bus or car, but mostly human-powered travel. But the first few weeks can be exhausting. Give yourself a week or two of walking around, then try the bike again; or take your bike out on weekends and see how far you can go before getting tired. Chances are you'll get to where you can bike around campus easily.
A little tip -- pay attention to where your classes are when signing up. One time I got stuck with two classes that were close in time but very far in distance. I told the second professor that I'd always be late because there wasn't physically enough time to get from one to the other in 5 minutes, and even then I always showed up exhausted from hurrying. Avoid that if you can.

Go for it.
